Do you think you have what it takes to lead a group down the river? Do you like to tell jokes? Do you want to more about river safety and whitewater rafting? If so, you are in the right place!! Think you have what it takes to get a couple of buddies and some new found friends down the whitewater gnar of the PNW? Or are you looking to take your rafting to the next level? Or are you just looking to learn more about rafting as an Informed Passenger? If you answered yes to any other those questions, then Guide Training with BEWET is for you!
During guide training, our qualified guide trainers will teach you everything you need to know to safely read whitewater and navigate a raft down a rapid-filled river. We start off by introducing you to the required gear (much of which we provide), river and hydrology concepts, and how to be a guide. This starts on land in classroom sessions, which may have some required reading to facilitate discussions. Then, we move on to a flatwater session where you will get wet and become familiar with setting up and flipping a raft, with some rope practice… THROWN in 😉.
There are also several pre-season/spring training trips that new trainees are invited to attend on (see the schedule for more info on those).
All of this leads up to the Guide Training weekend where we spend 2 days on the Wenatchee River putting all of our knowledge to practice and learning new concepts. Additional guiding skills and river knowledge will be taught hands on throughout the remainder of the rafting season on BEWET trips. Lucky for you Guide Training extends the whole season long on all of the trips! At the end of the season, all guides and trainees are evaluated and rated.
If you're thinking about joining Guide Training or becoming an Advanced Member, read on for more details! You can get get your questions asked and hangout with some guides are our Info Sessions!
Guide: the person who is in charge of navigating the raft down the river, and having fun!
Advanced Member: a BEWET member who learns some of the skills of guiding, but more importantly learns how rivers work and how to assist getting down the river safety. You’ll get the chance to attend more advanced rivers!
Guide Training and Advanced member training happen in parallel. The main distinction will be how much “stick time” you will receive.
